With New York City looming a few miles to the west, I grew up in a small community on the south shore of Long Island called Massapequa Park. My interest in radio started when I was 10 years old and received a Hallicrafter s-120 general coverage receiver. It wasn't long before I got my first CB radio. The dye was cast!
After a year or two on 11 meters, I earned my Novice ticket in August of 1972. I put together a small station consisting of an Eico 723 CW transmitter and a Lafayette HA-800b amateur receiver. I set up a small vertical antenna in the back yard and went to town using only 60 watts on CW with a straight key. I had a blast! My call was WN2IYV.
In 1978, I moved out west to Colorado. I spent over 20 years living in various parts of the state. During that time, I upgraded my license and received the callsign KBØODZ. Between my career and raising a family, I didn't have a lot of time for radio, but still, I maintained a presence on the bands.
By the end of 1998, we decided to escape the snow and cold WX and migrate down to Florida. After a few more years of work in Tampa, I retired from my career and now have more time to spend with amateur radio. I found I really enjoy all the new digital modes. You may have worked/seen me on psk, olivia, mfsk or one of the other "exotic" soundcard modes.
